Happy & Free

The Happy and Free object combines blown glass and bronze into an organic, almost dreamlike form. At first glance, it evokes the fragility and beauty of the human body, but at the same time carries a strong message about identity, transformation and acceptance. The glass body with female and male elements symbolizes non-binary and gender fluidity. The work does not only depict a transgender person as an individual, but opens up a broader social discussion about identity, respect, understanding and esteem. The masculine and feminine principles are present here simultaneously – not as opposites, but as two sides of one whole, as a dialogue, not a contradiction. The bronze pedestal with a sculptural orchid and thistle deepens this idea. The orchid, as a gentle symbol of femininity and the vagina, contrasts with the barbed thistle – a masculine, phallic sign. Together they form a metaphor for transformation – from one to the other or vice versa – and at the same time suggest that identity is not static, but a living process. The materials – clear, fragile glass and solid, heavy bronze – are also carriers of meaning. They represent apparent opposites, which, however, harmoniously form a single whole. Glass, although it seems fragile, is at the same time strong and durable. Bronze, on the other hand, symbolizes stability with its weight and strength, but also flexibility in the form of artistic expression. This interplay of materials thus metaphorically refers to the human soul – fragile but strong, transparent but full of depth. Happy and Free is not only a visually impressive work, but also a powerful statement. It is a celebration of the freedom to be oneself – in any form that one chooses.
